Lister on the Central Mission of God

“As Genesis and Revelation show us, God creates a people and a place, but this people and place are not ends in themselves. Instead, the promise of a dominion and dynasty is much more. The new heaven and new earth is the location of God’s eternal, unrestricted dwelling, and the people of God are those who will revel in his divine presence forever. So when we read about the beginning of God’s work in creation and catch a glimpse of God’s finished work of redemption, we see time and time again that the presence of God is at the center of it all. The Lord begins and ends the history of redemption with his presence because the expansion and enjoyment of his own presence for his glory is a central mission of God.”
