Packer spends this chapter investigating the jealousy of God. I think that sometimes it is hard for us to imagine that a God so great would be interested in His creatures. And yet, Packer outlines many passages in which God is described as being intensely jealous for His Bride. Moreover, because God is a jealous God, He requires us to thirst after Him exclusively and passionately. This thought is a profound source of encouragement and motivation to us as Christians. Instead of allowing our lives to slip away in complacency, we have both the privilege and obligation to live with fervor and passion for God’s name and glory each and every day.
